Jr. Applications Developer Keywords: PL/SQL, Oracle, UNIX Scripting Job Summary: Responsible contributing to a development team by engaging in the development and support of both COTS and Bespoke applications within the IT system footprint. Where required the Junior Applications Developer assist in the determination of the proper resources and level of effort for projects. Performs job duties consistent within safety, legal and regulatory requirements; company standards, culture and business practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Work with Team Lead and other member of the development team in the support and extension of COTS and Bespoke applications Mentor junior developers with regard to development best practices and developing within a standard SDLC environment Work with application architects and managers to develop technical specifications for new development Participate in determining the level of effort for team projects Ensure the code developed by the department meets with established coding standards Staying abreast of industry changes through education and training Keeping management informed of development risks and progress Assist with the development of interfaces between assigned systems and the systems maintained by other developmental groups Additional Duties: Contributes to departmental activities and programs by accomplishing related tasks as needed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong technical skills with interactive design principles, applied knowledge and cross-browser development techniques, and browser degradation strategies i.e. CSS, HTML/XHTML, AJAX, Java script, Java/JSP, PL SQL, XML/SOAP Technical skills on both the MS SQL 2005 and Oracle (10g) database platforms Willingness to train to support specific applications Knowledge of the telecom industry and related systems a plus Good understanding of distributed computing, networking, and RDBMS deployments Familiarity with managing code within a source control environment Education/Experience In order to accomplish the essential duties of this position, the incumbent must have 1-2 years experience in applications development working with in an OOP and SOA environment Experience with any of the following: BEA Weblogic 8.1, Tuxedo, Websphere or any other middle tier application packages a plus Experience with: Siebel 7.8, Metasolv 6, Oracle 11i, Kenan BP, Netcool a plus Experience with a large scale Content Management System (CMS) such as Vignette, TeamSite, etc. a plus Physical Demands and Work Environment: This position is a regular full time position on a schedule established by the supervisor. Occasional travel is required to conduct the essential functions of the position, which may require overnight and weekend stays. Being on call, altering the work schedule, and working overtime are required in order to meet the demands and deadlines associated with the position. The work environment involves the use of typical office equipment such as telephone, computer, facsimile, etc. in a controlled climate.
