UMaine Team Second in NECCDC 2010
On March 5th through 7th, nine colleges and universities competed in the 2010 Northeast Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition, which was held at the University of Maine.
The UMaine cyber-defense team came in second place. The following make this result especially notable.
This competition was only the second time that UMaine competed.
Because we were hosting the contest the team pretty much had to prepare itself for the competition.
We were going up against schools that have majors in networking and security, while we offer just one course in this area.
We had significant presence from the Department of Homeland Security, the Boeing Corporation and all of the military services.
The nine schools that competed are (in alphabetical order):
- Alfred State College
- Champlain College
- Harvard University
- Northeastern University
- Polytechnic Institute of NYU
- Rochester Institute of Technology
- Stevens Institute of Technology
- SUNY Oswego
- UMaine
The top three finishers were:
- Northeastern University
- University of Maine
- Rochester Institute of Technology
An article about the competition appeared in the Bangor Daily News. (Note that the article incorrectly states the winner of the competition.)
